Proposed Voting Law Follows Colorado’s Example

A new federal law proposition entitled “Next Generation Votes” hopes to follow in Colorado’s footsteps to increase voter turnout of young people, a notoriously underrepresented group in elections. The law would allow 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote while getting their license. A law for this had been passed in 2013 in Colorado. The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office says nearly 156,000 16-and-17-year-olds in Colorado have pre-registered to vote since the law took effect. On Thursday, December 21, 2018, our president officially signed and passed the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill ends the prohibition of hemp in the United States, making it a historical day in our history. The passage of this bill will begin the regrowth of hemp as an agricultural crop in America. Uruguay legalizes recreational Marijuana for citizens ( 2013). Widely available and decriminalized in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and South Africa. Since 2012, 10 U.S. states (and Washington D.C.) have legalized Marijuana recreationally, and 66% of states have legalized medically, as of 1996. Study by, Santa Fe Institute(2014) predicts U.S. federal legalization of Marijuana by 2021. It was a monumental week for the cannabis industry as Congress approved the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, also referred to as the farm bill. The passing of this bill, once officially signed by the President, will legalize the production, processing, and sale of hemp.
